Phoenix Belly Dance is a multi-award-winning entertainment company and dance school based in Auckland, New Zealand. Founded in 2010 by Candice Frankland, our mission is to celebrate and elevate the art of Middle Eastern dance through dynamic classes, immersive workshops, and unforgettable performances.
We blend contemporary concepts with the rich traditions of belly dance, offering a unique and authentic experience for dancers and audiences alike. From captivating theatre shows and collaborative projects to hosting international artists and our annual Weekend Belly Dance Retreat, Phoenix Belly Dance has played a key role in shaping the New Zealand belly dance scene.

ABout Candice Frankland
Founder & Director
Candice Frankland is the founder of the award-winning company Phoenix Belly Dance. An accomplished international teacher and performer, Candice has represented New Zealand and Australia at the prestigious BestInWorld international dance event and has earned lead roles in Belly Dance Evolution tours and BellyQueen’s Silk Road Tour. She is also a winner of Belly Dance Evolution’s casting competitions, highlighting her talent on the global stage.
In the New Zealand dance community, Candice is known as a kind, knowledgeable teacher and a creative force in performance and choreography. She is widely respected for her innovative productions, and her dedication to building meaningful connections within the community.
Internationally, Candice is recognised for creating supportive retreats, cultural tours, and educational gatherings that foster growth and connection among dancers—whether they are professionals, teachers, or students. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to uplifting the dance community in New Zealand, promoting collaboration with like-minded artists around the world, and honouring the cultural roots of Middle Eastern dance through education, performance, and artistic innovation.
